Furniture and Cabinetry Design Intern

Kinney Home, Newark, OH

May 2025 - Aug 2025

During my internship at Kinney Home, I assisted in the design and construction of custom furniture and cabinetry, gaining valuable experience in taking projects from concept development through final build. I worked closely on cabinetry solutions tailored to client needs and learned how to merge aesthetic considerations with functional requirements. Beyond the design studio, I gained hands-on experience in residential remodeling—including demolition, trim carpentry, and installation of doors, windows, decks, and cabinetry. This role deepened my understanding of how design intent translates into practical construction methods, sharpening both my craftsmanship and my ability to think critically about how ideas become reality.

Hi, I’m Cianna Woltz-Yarnelli, an Industrial Design student at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP), with a minor in Marketing. I am participating in the Professional Practice Program, alternating semesters of study with full-time work to gain real-world experience. My work centers on sustainable materials and thoughtful design, with a focus on furniture, soft goods, lighting, and décor.

I see design as a way to restore harmony between people and the natural environment, creating products that are both sustainable and deeply meaningful. To me, furniture and objects are not only functional—they are opportunities to inspire connection, spark feeling, and remind us of the beauty that surrounds us.

Outside of my design work, I enjoy woodworking as a creative outlet, crafting cutting boards, coasters, and charcuterie boards. I’m also an avid gardener and serve as President of UC’s Horticulture Club, where I lead initiatives in sustainability, pollinator-friendly gardening, and maintaining the university’s plant collection. These experiences continually influence my design process, grounding me in the values of growth, balance, and care that I strive to bring into every project.
